Academic Positions Held

Wharton: 1997-present (named James G. Campbell, Jr. Memorial Endowed Term Associate Professor of Finance, 2008)

Professor Gomes broad expertise is on the connections between macroeconomics and finance. His recent research has primarily covered the theoretical determinants of the corporate investment and financing decisions of firms and how they are linked to movements in financial markets and to monetary and fiscal policies.

Most recently Professor Gomes has taught at the London Business School while on leave from Wharton. Before that he was also a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia in Canada and the New University of Lisbon in Portugal.

While largely focused on teaching and advanced research at top academic institutions around the world, Professor Gomes’ experience also includes work as consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and as an economic advisor to the Ministry of Industry of Portugal.
